2.1 Cellulose synthase genes

RSW1 - AtCesA1

The first cellulose synthase (CESA) gene with function proven by genetic complementation. Isolated as a temperature-sensitive “root-tip swelling” mutant in a screen designed to identify cytoskeleton mutants.

PROCUSTE/IXR2 - AtCesA6

This CESA gene was identified in a routine screen of all T-DNA tagged etiolated dwarf hypocotyls.

IRX1 - AtCesA8

These “irregular xylem” mutants were identified by the collapsed appearance of the tracheary elements and fibers of the xylem and by map-based cloning determined to be CESA genes
