We are all saddened by the passing of our dear colleague, Anthony (Tony) B. Bleecker. Tony died at the age of 54 on January 30, 2005, after a brave fight against cancer. He was Professor of Botany and Genetics and former chair of the Department of Botany at the University of Wisconsin– Madison.

His development of high through-put genotyping protocols for production of homozygous Arabidopsis insertional mutants were fundamental and essential for the success of our cell wall genomics program. His work continues in the lab of his wife, Dr. Sara Patterson. A memoriam to Tony can be found in the January-February 2005 newsletter of the American Society of Plant Biologists.
